Elevating School Leadership
School leadership described as “second only to classroom teaching as an influence on pupil learning” is imperative to the overall success of the school.
School leaders shape the professional growth of the teachers that they manage and it is vital that they feel confident in helping staff in their professional development.
However, the skills required for these positions vary from the expertise needed to be successful when teaching a class. When teachers move into management positions, such as being the head of a department, parts of their job will involve tasks which they might not be used to undertaking, such as having difficult conversations with employees that they are managing. This can be particularly hard if they are now in a more senior position than faculty members who used to be co-workers.
C-Live’s school leadership training is ideal for Head and Deputy Head teachers, Heads of department or teachers hoping to move into those positions further on in their career.
It allows teachers to enhance their performance as school leaders by increasing their confidence and developing their skills when undertaking challenging conversations, such as employee job reviews or addressing performance issues. It can also allow school leaders to practise setting development goals and objectives for their staff.
Participants can practise scenarios such as speaking to teachers about ineffective classroom techniques that they are using or addressing a situation that could have been handled in a better manner.
We can also provide bespoke scenarios for any specific interactions that leaders would like to develop further.
